How to Work Around 'About Internet Explorer Emergency Mode'Some infections (like E-Set Antivirus, Antivirus .NET, Antivirus 8, AVG Antivirus 2011 and Windows Risk Eliminator) try to block your browser from accessing normal websites, opening your browser to 'Internet Explorer Emergency Mode'. Whenever you try to access a website, you receive a message saying that the website you are trying to visit is unsafe, followed by a navigation cancelled screen. The message title is somthing similar to 'About Internet Explorer Emergency Mode' (picture below). The infection may even display the url http://microsoft.com/#blacklist to convince you that the message is official. To work around such an infection and access the websites you want, you can do the following either of the methods listed below:
IMPORTANT: If you are unable to open your browser at all, and whenever you try to open your browser you receive an error message similar to the below, follow Method 1 below. If your browser does open up but you are unable to navigate to websites, follow Method 2.
Fixing 'About Internet Explorer Emergency Mode - Method 1'Step 1: Right-click on fix-browser.reg and choose 'Save As' (or Save target as or Save link as). Save the downloaded file to your Desktop as 'fix-browser.reg'.Step 2: Click on Vkill and choose 'Save'. Save the downloaded file to your Desktop. Step 3: Click on SpyNoMore and choose 'Save'. Save the downloaded file to your Desktop. Step 4: You should now have 3 files on your Desktop (fix-browser.reg, vkill.exe and snm298.exe). Save these 3 files from your Desktop to a flash drive, then transfer the flash drive to the infected computer. Step 5: On the infected computer, double-click 'fix-browser.reg' to merge it into your registry. You may receive a Registry Editor warning, click 'Yes' to accept. You will notice that you are able to open your browser without trouble after merging the file. But, the infection is still there, go to next step. Step 6: Double-click 'vkill' to kill the infected processes. You may need to double-click vkill several times in order to subdue the infection. Once you see a text file open up, listing the process names killed, this means vkill has done its job. Proceed to next step. Step 7: Double-click 'snm298.exe' to install SpyNoMore. Update SpyNoMore and run a Smart Scan to detect Internet Explorer Emergency Mode infection and any other trojan or virus that may have come along with it.
